Context:
The school, Icam Grand Paris Sud, is currently implementing a material science lab with production lines of different types of polymers and composites. A new class of polymers called vitrimers, only recently synthesised, in 2011, presents highly interesting thermomechanical properties as bio-sourced, structural and recyclable polymers.
Project Description:
In this context, the school is looking for two engineers interested by innovative materials to explore the possibilities given by these vitrimers. They will carry on preliminary researches in order to determinate the chemistries that can be synthesised at the school. After this selection process, test samples of vitrimers and composite vitrimers will be made based on the chosen chemistries. The results analysis will conclude on the feasibility of implementing a research program on vitrimers at the school by comparing results obtained with the literature.
The students are then expected to deliver:
- A scientific paper review of the thermomechanical properties of vitrimers as a function of their chemistry
- A selection of those chemistries and synthesis processes that could be implemented at the school
- Manufacturing, testing and analysis of vitrimers and composite vitrimers samples (mainly tensile and fracture tests)
- required skills:
-
The students are expected to have good knowledge in material science.
