Composite recycling
Master thesis- Axis:

Nowadays, materials recycling is at the heart of environmental and economic challenges. Wind turbine blades and leisure boats hulls are very often made with polyester thermoset composites. These materials are difficult to reuse. A former PhD work (A. Nouigues) showed that, under convenient conditions, it is possible to re-shape these materials to fit them to a new use. The goal of this training is to complete the already obtained results in order to set the first steps of an accepted European project dealing with composite recycling (Recreate project).
Means:
- supervision
- calculation tools
- shaping tools
- measurement devices
- machine shop
The work will improve the results obtained in the aforementioned thesis. It will be asked to obtain a better description of the physical characteristics of the input materials to be able to determine the operating parameters of an industrial tool. In order to improve the understanding of the physical laws and the relevance of the required measurements, an interest in the understanding of the physical phenomena will be appreciated. The work might be directed either towards an academic way or towards a more applied point of view.
The results will allow the transition between the already done work and further developments, academics or industrials, done, for example, in the frame of the Recreate project
- required skills:
-
Autonomous trainee interested in experimental research, interpretation of the measurements and use in models.
Knowledges in heat transfer and polymer behavior under mechanical solicitations will be appreciated.
