Context:
A polyester-glass fiber composite recycling method, currently studied at the laboratory, requires the knowledge of friction coefficients. The friction coefficients measured on a laboratory developed bench seems to depend on some mechanical characteristics of the bench in a way not found in the literature. So, the measured values can not be reliably used for the calculation of models mandatory to design industrial machines.
Work:
In order to improve the knowledge of this unexpected observation, systematic measurements must be performed using the already made testing set up. The goal is to qualify the set up and study the link between the measurements and the characteristics of the testing bench. A local pressure sensor adapted to the testing bench will be made.
Friction of a composite against a surface of another material results in an elevation of temperature. This modification entails a change in the friction coefficient. A testing set allowing the evaluation of the temperature rise with an infra-red camera is available. Measurements still remain to be performed. So the required work is to obtain the measurements, possibly to improve the testing bench, and to try to distinguish between heat surface and heat bulk generation.
