Bachelor international Icam: at the heart of technical and human realities

15 Jun 2025

The Icam International Bachelor is designed for those who want to approach engineering sciences differently—through creativity, practical experience, and a strong international dimension. This four-year program allows students to enter directly into the final two years of Icam’s general engineering cycle—without taking a competitive entrance exam—either as a student or as an apprentice. It is a school-based Bachelor’s program that does not award a degree at the end of the cycle.

What Makes It Unique:
Active, Project-Based Learning
The program is built around interdisciplinary projects that serve as the foundation for learning. Students develop autonomy and a sense of responsibility through hands-on experiences. A significant portion of the curriculum is dedicated to Problem-Based Learning (PBL), where students work collaboratively to solve real-world challenges using their own research and critical thinking.

Example: A low-tech greenhouse project developed by final-year Bachelor students at Icam’s Grand Paris Sud campus.
The goal? To create an affordable, eco-friendly solution that can be reproduced in low-resource communities to support local food production and sustainable agriculture.

At the Grand Paris Sud campus, the low-tech greenhouse is up and running!

A Strong International Focus
Students spend at least one year abroad, promoting cultural diversity, global collaboration, and fluency in English. The program is offered simultaneously across six countries: France, Cameroon, Ecuador, Brazil, India, and the Philippines.

A Real-World Example from Lille: Co-Creating Solutions with Flood Victims

At the Lille campus, fourth-year students are tackling an ambitious project titled “Housing and Flooding“, aimed at designing resilient, regenerative housing solutions for communities affected by floods.

This project, conducted as Service Learning, involves deep listening to residents who have experienced natural disasters, understanding their emotional and practical needs, and translating those insights into technical solutions.
On May 6th, students visited the town of Blendecques—severely impacted by the 2024 floods—to present their proposed solutions, including a floating bed system.
The students were deeply moved and motivated by their conversations with local residents, as featured in a recent BFM TV report from Lille.

Independence, Openness, Adaptability: Inspiring Testimonials from Bachelor Students

Bertille (Brittany campus) spent her fourth year abroad in 2021–2022: one semester in Recife, Brazil, and the second in Quito, Ecuador.
Going abroad helps you grow as a person and broadens your perspective. It also builds maturity, which companies notice when assigning us responsibilities. This is a human-centered program that fosters adaptability. Our ability to work together and adapt is one of our biggest strengths!

Tristan (Lille campus), who graduated of Icam in July 2024, spent his fourth year in Ecuador, working on low-tech housing solutions adapted to local needs.
The Bachelor helps you develop independence and organization. You learn to manage different subjects, projects, and teams, which requires solid time management. What I really enjoyed was the team spirit and learning through problem-solving—like fixing an electric scooter!

Barthélémy (Lille campus) spent nine months in Ecuador in 2021–2022. For him, the Bachelor is a real-life school where cultural diversity and innovative teaching prepare students for the realities of engineering.
The Icam International Bachelor, with its active, project-based pedagogy, makes us the main drivers of our own learning. It’s a modern and human-centered approach that encourages curiosity, responsibility, and organization.

Alice (Lille campus) chose to spend her third year at the Ucac-Icam Institute in Douala, Cameroon. Ten months later, she has no regrets.
It was a rich cultural, personal, and academic experience. This journey helped me grow, step back, and rethink how I approach engineering in an international context—one that must respond to specific local challenges.

A memorable and unforgettable year for Alice, surrounded by her teachers, mentors, classmates, and friends.
