Lvl Up

General presentation of the platform

The interdisciplinary research platform LvL-Up, located at the Icam campus in Lille, is dedicated to the core challenges of the current ecological transition by focusing on the valorization of industrial co-products and non-food vegetal waste. Driven by a strong ambition to align with a circular economy and integral ecology approach, our primary mission is to develop viable, high-performance, and sustainable alternatives to fossil raw materials. To achieve this, our work focuses mainly on the exploitation of lignocellulosic biomass. By rethinking the life cycle of these underutilized natural resources, we are designing the biorefineries of tomorrow and fostering the emergence of a truly green industry.

The unique strength of the LvL-Up platform lies in its ability to encompass the entire value chain, from the raw co-product to its final industrial application. In order to minimize environmental impact while maximizing processing efficiency, we rely on the development of cutting-edge ecotechnologies. These innovative processes, initially designed and validated at the laboratory scale, undergo a rigorous scale-up to provide the necessary volumes for proofs of concept with our partners. To ensure this technological continuity, we mobilize highly specialized and complementary expertise: the design of eco-extraction processes and green chemistry, coupled with numerical process simulation. We also ensure the in-depth study of the developed materials through their mechanical characterization and modeling, the evaluation of their durability, and the execution of Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to certify their ecological relevance.

To successfully carry out these ambitious scientific projects, LvL-Up relies on the synergy of a dynamic and highly qualified team. This platform currently brings together 7 researchers, 11 PhD students, and 4 post-doctoral researchers, all deeply involved in the various stages of technological maturation. Our ecosystem is enriched by a strong network composed of numerous academic laboratories and industrial partners involved in the ecological transition. Together, we champion a responsible approach with high scientific and economic potential, resolutely committed to pushing the boundaries of technological innovation to build a more sustainable environment.
