AKENOV : CIFRE Fruits Rouges and Co

"The AKENOV project is part of the VALOREEMA Chair. Its objective is to study the extraction of biomolecules of interest from biowaste generated by the company FRUITS ROUGES & Co (fruit achenes, seeds, skins, and pomace) using innovative and eco-efficient extraction processes.

Currently valorized through anaerobic digestion, some of these biowastes present a higher valorization potential as by-products rich in antioxidants and/or natural colorants, notably anthocyanins. These extracts could serve as natural alternatives to synthetic preservatives and antioxidants, such as ascorbic or citric acid, which are undesired by the company's customers.

The project includes evaluating the incorporation of these extracts into specific food and/or cosmetic matrices. Furthermore, an innovative integrated process, recently developed by the UMRt BioEcoAgro, will be evaluated for its ability to produce extracts enriched in molecules of interest while minimizing extraction time, energy, and solvent consumption, thereby reducing the environmental footprint of the process."
