As an international and intercultural general engineering school, Icam is also a place where one can achieve personal fulfillment, thanks to a student experience based on freedom, creativity, awareness and openness to others and the world.

Studying at Icam means opening yourself up to a very strong intercultural reality , which makes its campuses true international living spaces and places for experimenting with living together.

Icam has 7 campuses in France and 8 sites around the world: Brazil, Cameroon, Congo, Ecuador, India, DRC, Philippines and Côte d’Ivoire. Many students experience inter-site student mobility, creating a rich and stimulating dynamic of openness.
Icam is mainly present internationally in countries of the Southern Hemisphere, where the needs for development and engineering are very high.
Icam also relies on a network of 156 university partners on all continents, where it is possible to complete semesters of study, obtain a double degree or prepare for a doctorate.

Conscious and engaged students

Icam’s teaching methods differ from those of other engineering schools in France and internationally. They enable students to acquire solid technical skills, but also soft skills essential to their future careers.

Icam is an international engineering school where students learn to take charge of their lives and choices. Icam engineers are trained to become individuals who are aware of the world around them , committed to working for the common good, and deeply humanist.
Dedicated time for reflection is integrated into the curriculum, allowing students to develop a personal and professional project aligned with their deepest aspirations throughout their studies. This unique approach, specific to engineering schools, is called “Experiment, Reflect, Discern . ” It is also offered to students in the school’s other technical programs (vocational training certificates, production schools, etc.).

360° Sustainable Commitments

Icam is committed to a sustained approach to sustainable development and social responsibility (SD&SR) which permeates all the teaching in its general engineering courses, and which governs the operation of all its campuses.

Icam’s DD&RS approach is based on the principle of integral ecology , which consists of imagining future solutions by taking into account all parameters: human, social, economic and, of course, environmental.
This sustainable dimension is integrated into all courses of general and specialized engineering training , so that ecology becomes an integral part of the skills acquired by students.
The commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility is also experienced on the sites: sustainable buildings and/or renovations, operating charters, soft mobility, etc.

Closely aligned with the needs of businesses

Since its inception, Icam has been an engineering school with extremely close ties to industry. Its R&D and academic research activities are geared towards industrial innovation, but also, and above all, sustainable progress. Several hundred partner companies also maintain a strong and fruitful relationship with the school.

Icam was originally an engineering school founded by two industrialists from Northern France. It has maintained a strong connection with local businesses throughout its history . During their final year of studies, engineering students undertake R&D projects that directly benefit industry professionals, who entrust them with specific technical or organizational challenges. These projects are known as Industrial Scientific Reports (MSI), which can also be Research Reports (MSR).
Furthermore, Icam’s major partners are involved in student education by offering courses, projects, conferences, or by taking part in juries and recruitment events , in order to build relationships with our students and cultivate their employer brand .
On the research side, researchers and doctoral students are working on innovative projects , based on three main pillars: energy production, storage and management; innovative structures and materials; and the societal and technological transition of companies.

A school open to all audiences

Icam is committed to welcoming a wide diversity of students to its sites . It trains technicians and managers, from CAP to Specialized Master’s®, and welcomes adults in the context of continuing education.

Icam provides training in highly practical disciplines with excellent employability rates. In its production schools , for example, young people aged 15 to 18 who have experienced academic difficulties can rediscover success by learning industrial trades highly valued by recruiters. Two-year post-secondary programs (Bac+2) and Specialized Masters® are also offered in cutting-edge disciplines sought after by companies. The Lean 5.0 school (located in Lille, Strasbourg-Europe, and Grand Paris Sud campuses) is another strong example of the alignment between Icam’s training programs and the needs of industry.

Finally, continuing education for engineers is open to professionals currently working or undergoing career changes, with specifically arranged learning times.

Students who are supported and encouraged

Upon arrival at Icam, students join the Icam Alumni association , which provides them with a supportive and robust network . Each year, the Icam Business Forum brings together hundreds of recruiters for internships, apprenticeships, and jobs ! Furthermore, students who need it can finance their entire studies through scholarships and interest-free loans from the Feron-Vrau Foundation . 

This Foundation (named after the industrial founders of Icam) supports the school’s major development projects , including the financing of tuition fees, in order to allow equal opportunities in access to Icam engineering studies. 

In the same way that Icam welcomes students from technical or production schools, the school wishes to open its general and specialized engineering courses to all audiences, in order to develop social diversity on its sites .

For their careers, young Icam engineers can rely on the close-knit alumni network and the school’s strong ties with its partner companies , hundreds of which meet every spring in Paris to recruit Icam students.

What entities make up Icam?

Icam is a non-profit organization. It holds the EESPIG (Private Higher Education Institution of General Interest) qualification, awarded by the French State, and its programs are accredited by the Commission des Titres d’Ingénieurs (CTI). Icam comprises several entities that make decisions collaboratively.

The entities that make up Icam are:

  • All French and international sites,
  • The Feron-Vrau Foundation . Named after the founders of Icam, this foundation can receive private donations, which finance the school’s major real estate projects, as well as interest-free loans granted to students wishing to finance their studies.
  • The Icam Alumni Association , which maintains the network of Icam graduate engineers,
  • The Friends of Icam , which manages and runs student residences in France. Residences that are an integral part of Icam’s educational project.

The Society of Jesus is also a strong partner of Icam. While not part of the school’s entities, one of its representatives sits on the board of directors. Icam owes to the Society, among other things, its humanist values, its commitment to maintaining small class sizes, its pedagogy focused on experimentation, awareness and critical thinking, as well as its dedication to integral ecology.
