Innovation Challenge in Quito: A celebration of youth creativity!
International
15 Apr 2025
On April 5, 2025, the PUCE-Icam International School of Innovation hosted the 5th edition of the Innovation Challenge, an event open to high school students from across Ecuador. The goal: to spark young people’s interest in engineering and innovation through a fun and engaging competition.
Nearly a hundred students from 12 schools in Quito and other regions of the country, supported and cheered on by their families and loved ones, took part in the Innovation Challenge held on April 5. This competition tasks participants with solving an engineering problem and presenting their solution.
This year’s challenge, titled “Robo-Golf,” involved designing a device to hit golf balls into various holes; the score awarded depended on the hole’s position.
Each of the 25 teams, having received the technical specifications and materials developed by the Fablab in March, had to imagine and build their prototype. The final showdown took place on April 5 on the PUCE-Icam campus. The teams presented their projects to a jury made up of integrated engineering professors, international faculty, and representatives from well-known companies, all in an incredible atmosphere!
Encouraging young talents and future engineers
The idea behind this challenge is to encourage young people to develop their creativity by proposing a solution and putting it into practice in the spirit of comprehensive engineering education. Inspiring this new generation to take an interest in engineering and nurturing young talent and future engineers has been the mission of the Innovation Challenge at PUCE-Icam for the past five years—while also boosting the campus’s visibility.
Congratulations to all participants and the winners of the 2025 Innovation Challenge:
• Team Jarvis from San Luis Gonzaga High School (1st place)
• Team Innovatrix from Unidad Educativa Particular Bilingüe Cardenal Spellman (2nd place)
• Team TechNova from Unidad Educativa ISM Quito (Best Design)
