Mission Écologie Intégrale : putting people and the environment at the heart of student projects

Higher Education
10 Sep 2024

This second year of the Mission Écologie Intégrale (MEI) program has enabled students in their 4th year of the Icam apprenticeship program to take part in a unique experience aimed at the common good.

After preparing throughout the year, the 4th year apprentices spent four weeks in July carrying out their Mission Écologie Intégrale (MEI). This mission gives them the opportunity to get involved in social, environmental or economic projects, and to reflect on the values of trust, freedom, responsibility and solidarity. It is a voluntary action that they carry out alone or as part of a team, in the service of an integral ecology cause.

Through this experience, students are encouraged to think outside the box, to open up to others and to the world, and to act for the common good. A time at the end of their mission is also planned to enable them to review the experience collectively and individually.

Examples of completed assignments

– At the Icam Brittany site, the Océan pour tous project: four students sailed the south coast of Brittany on a boat with disabled people to share the joys of sailing with them. They carried out their project with three associative partners: the Gabriel Deshayes association, l’Armada des Possibles and La voile pour Tous YCCA.
Their wish is to be able to continue this action or to pass it on to future promotions.

An experience to (re)discover on their instagram page.

– At the Icam site in Vendée, the Les Roues Solidaires project: three students from La Roche-sur-Yon took up the challenge of cycling 2,000 km across France in 25 days to raise awareness of disability and inclusion, and to support Handisport.

They were involved with the Handisport Vendée association, for which they raised funds.

By choosing the bicycle as a means of transport, the students also wanted to raise awareness of the importance of soft mobility, reducing our carbon footprint and the transition to sustainable modes of transport in order to preserve our environment.
